In the 1950s, Dewain Boyce studied at the Los Angeles Art Center with John Altoon, and at the Chouinard Art Institute with Don Graham and Dick Ruben. He also attended El Camino Junior college and Mexico City College.

In developing his model of the structure underlying Paul Cezanne's paintings, Dewain Boyce has analyzed Cezanne's works (and those of other master artists), consulted with experts around the world, investigated human perception, and applied mathematical and geometrical concepts. Dewain began this "labor of love" in 1993.
